65 of the most beautiful Mother Daughter Tattoos EVER. These gorgeous tattoos and heartwarming stories show tattoo designs for mothers and daughter. Incredible tattoos of love.
The mother daughter relationship can be a complicated one. It can range from blissful (think, when you’re 5 and your mom is your favorite person in the world) to tumultuous (puberty, anyone?) and back again. But one thing is for certain – you love each other no matter what. This list is full of mothers and daughters who are so close they decided to get inked together, to immortalize their bonds in flesh. I would love to do this with my mom (who has put up with so much nonsense from me, I could praise her as a saint); we’ve had our ups and downs, sure, but she is by far one of my favorite people in the world, and she’s the sweetest woman with the biggest heart. She’s not a fan of tattoos, though. Oh well.

40 Unique Mother Daughter Tattoos
There will be absolutely NO “You are my sunshine” or “I will love you forever” mother daughter tattoos on this list. There will definitely be no infinity symbols, and not a single image of that swoopy “Mom with Child” heart symbol. No. None of that here. This list is reserved for tattoos with a bit more creativity, with a bit more heart. These mother/daughter tattoos are unique and meaningful in their own special ways, just like mother/daughter relationships.
1. Giraffe Love
Aww! Aren’t they sweet? Totally simple, totally adorable, mama and baby giraffe matching mother/daughter tattoos are a great choice for animal loving families. I love the style of this pair, and the teensy red hear. So cute!
2. Birds of a Feather…
I am loving the delicate nature of this mother daughter tattoo. I feel like the bird on the branch is the mama bird, and she’s watching over all her babies as they leave the nest. I could be wrong about that – these ladies may have just thought it was pretty. Either way, the simplicity and daintiness of this ink is lovely.

3. …Flock Together Mother Daughter Tattoos
Another set of birds, but these tattoos feature a pair of birds flying. Maybe one is the mother bird, one is the daughter bird, and they are soaring together? I really like the style of these tattoos, the way they almost look like smudged ink. A nice symbol of the closeness of the mother daughter relationship.
4. Sweet As Can Bee
I love these little bees! Super cute cartoon style bees make for adorable matching tattoos, and I really like the placement on their feet (though, I’d like to suggest, if you are going to post a photo of your feet on the internet, make sure you get your pedicure on!).
Is it possible to have a mama arrow and a baby arrow? I suppose if the mama arrow and the daddy arrow really love each other? Anyway, this is a nice pair of mother daughter tattoos. I feel like the arrows represent guiding each other in the right direction. Simple, sweet and unique.
6. Good Advice
I’m digging the way these mother/daughter quote tattoos follow the shape of the arch of their feet. Very nice. I wonder if this is something the mother has said to her daughter over the years; it’s great advice, and a very nice sentiment between the two. Plus, it’s not “You are my sunshine,” so it’s automatically better than a lot of the ink out there.
7. Musical Mother Daughter Tattoos
Good choice for a music loving mother/daughter pair! No clue what song this is referencing – but I’d like to think that it’s part of a lullaby that mom used to sing to daughter when she was a baby. That’s a nice thought, right?
Being Irish, I am always partial to the shamrock (I’ve got one tattooed on my inner forearm), but I really like the simple rendition of the shamrock used in this pair of mother daughter tattoos. It’s definitely different than a lot of other shamrock tattoos out there, especially ones located on the inner wrist.
What a lovey little ladybugs! I like that this sweet pair are heart-shaped. Did you know that only the male ladybug has spots?
10. Makeup Forever
Are these ladies cosmetologists, or just major makeup lovers? Who knows – I do know that this is a very creative choice for mother/daughter tattoos. What better way to show your love for one another than to ink something you both love onto your arms? I can’t think of any.
11. Sign of Love
These are just adorable. I’m sure everyone is familiar with the “I love you” sign language symbol (in ASL finger-spelling, the raised pinkie is an “i,” the pointer and thumb form the “L” and the pinkie and thumb make “y”), but I love the way they made the hand into a heart. Very cute and clever.
12. Handwritten Reminder
I couldn’t find a backstory on these tattoos, but my educated guess is that it is the signature of the husband/father who has passed away. I can’t even begin to tell you how much I love this mother/daughter tattoo. It breaks my heart a little, but I think it’s an incredible way to remember someone; it’s as if you can carry around a piece of them all the time.
13. Two Hearts
You can never go wrong with a simple heart (I’ve got one on my ankle), and these ladies made a nice choice with the placement of their teensy red ones. A sweet symbol of love between mom and daughter.
14. Strength in Numbers
I’m pretty sure that the middle arm in this picture is missing the lower half, which makes the tattoos make a lot more sense. “We are powerful despite our injuries,” it has a nice ring to it, and it’s very inspiring. What a lovely idea for mother and daughters! I can’t seem to find the origins of this quote. Anyone have any ideas?
15. Chubby Unicorns! Mother Daughter Tattoos
These are so stinking cute! I want to cup one of these little sweeties in my hand and cuddle them! Seems like the one on the right might be getting a bit infected, though. I can’t get over that tiny front “arm” just kind of hanging there like a bitty T-Rex arm. More Mother Daughter tattoos below, folks.
16. Mum’s the Word for Mother Daughter Tattoos
At least I think they’re chrysanthemums – I’m no botanist! I think these are a cute idea for mother daughter tattoos, they don’t appear overtly sentimental, but they’re still matching. I love the super rich colors of the petals, and the muted green for the leaves. Very nice.
17. Tree of Love
I looked at this pair of mother daughter tattoos at least 3 times before I realized that the two sides of the trunk are people. Doh! But how pretty are these? I love how the arms go up and become the branches, and the mom and daughter meet together at the bottom to form the roots. Ah, family. Holding you down, but lifting you up at the same time.
18. Moon and Stars
This pair is the same, but slightly different. They each have the crescent moon and three stars, but they have different blue sky backgrounds. I like to think that Mom’s is a soft swoosh because she’s calm and soothing, and Daughter’s is more abstract because she’s creative and wild.
19. Pink Flamingo
My Uncle Tom would love these tattoos! He collects pink flamingos. And no, I have no idea why. At Christmas, he and my Aunt Connie have at least 4 or 5 trees set up around their house. One of them is the flamingo tree – decorated entirely in flamingo ornaments. Oh, and did I mention that the tree itself is pink? It’s hilarious. I got him the absolute ugliest flamingo ornament for Christmas last month – it was made of ceramic, but it had, like, doll hair, and it was wearing a bikini top, bell bottoms and roller skates. It was sweet.
Aww! I love these! I’m wondering, since they are each in a different font, if mother wrote daughter’s and daughter wrote mother’s? That would be super sweet. Ya know, looking at these hands…it’s entirely possible (in fact, fairly likely) that these two hands belong to dudes. Regardless, what’s not to love about these super supportive tattoos?
Everyone knows that the pink ribbon is for breast cancer, so I am assuming that either one of these ladies, or someone they love, has been affected by the disease. I like that the butterflies seem to be coming in for a landing on the ribbons.
22. Project Semicolon
In grammar, a semicolon is used to join two sentences together as one thought; it’s where the story could end, but the author decides to continue. (See what I did there?) So, the semicolon has come to represent new beginnings for those battling depression and addiction. You came to a certain point in your life where it could have ended, but you chose to keep going. It’s a very powerful symbol, and this pair of mother/daughter butterflies is a beautiful reminder of strength in adversity. If you want to learn more about the movement, visit projectsemicolon.org
23. Floral Feet Mother Daughter Tattoos
Cute little purple flowers for this mother/daughter duo! And did you notice? These ladies remembered to get their pedi on.
24. Birds on Branches
I’m going to make assumptions again. The birds represent their family? Anyway, they’re super cute, and I am totally digging the placement on her side. It’s a little different and unexpected.
25. Little Love Birds
Well, aren’t these little birdies just so simple and sweet? I wonder why one heart is colored in and the other isn’t? Think that means something? I don’t know, but it’s a totally cute mother daughter tattoo idea.
26. A Spin on a Classic
This set takes the old “Mom” tattoo idea and makes it a bit more modern with these gorgeous blue hearts. Love the contrast of the red roses on the blue background. A very pretty idea for any mother and daughter.
27. Life Lessons
“And we learn as we age.” Apparently this is a line from a song by the band Brand New, and many, many people have this quote tattoo, accompanied by the compass and the watch. I can’t find any reason behind that. I listened to the song, and I read the lyrics, and I still don’t see how everyone is doing the same thing. I mean, I understand the correlation, but how are so many people coming up with the same thing unless it’s already a thing? Am I making any sense? I feel like I’m not making sense. Is it part of the album art or something, maybe? Ugh. I don’t know.
28. Wanderlust Mother Daughter Tattoos
Hey, more compasses! At least I fully understand this pair. This mother daughter tattoo says “we all dream of far away,” evoking images of traveling to distant shores and experiencing other cultures. I like it. These ladies must be very adventurous. Or at least, they want to be.
29. Light Side/Dark Side
I was going to try to make some kind of Star Wars Force joke here, but I’m just totally drawing a blank. Anyway, this mother/daughter tattoo is very sweet. They are saying that they know each others good and bad sides, and still love each other. That can be tough to do, especially when you’re related.
30. Meet in the Middle
Keeping your head in the clouds with your feet still firmly on the ground. I like that these tattoos are different, yet they both have birds to connect them. Nice. By the way, that anchor looks amazing.
31. Feathered Family
Honestly, I could totally do without the “Her Mother/Her Daughter” in these tattoos. I think the feathers are enough to get the message across. But why is Daughter’s feather so scraggly? Whatever, I like the style and coloring.
32. Watercolor Cutout
You know, I called this watercolor, but it really feels more like drippy acrylic paint. Whatever you want to call the style, I love it! So colorful!
33. Pooh Knows Best Mother Daughter Tattoos
This mother/daughter tattoo definitely falls into the too sappy category, but I decided to include it because I couldn’t get over the cuteness of Piglet. I mean, c’mon. He’s so cute! Look at his little toots! (FYI: when my nephew was small, he called feet “toots,” and now, that’s pretty much all I say. And it’s “toots” like “Hey there, toots!” and not “trains make toots.” Plus, if you’re talking about adorable little feet, isn’t “toots” just totally expressive of that?)
34. Adorable Elephants
Elephants are an adorable and popular tattoo subject – see these Elephant tattoos for more examples – and work really well for mother/daughter tattoos. I can’t figure out if these are supposed to be circus elephants, but I love the way they’re holding trunks. Aww!
35. Wind Beneath My Wings
Another mother/daughter team who are rocking the pedi for the foot photo! That makes me automatically like their tats. I love these wings, and I’m fairly certain that they form a heart in the center there, which is cute.
36. We Go Together Mother Daughter Tattoos
Oh for crying out loud! This is so cute! Mom and daughter go together like peanut butter and jelly. So sweet! And how adorable are those little faces?? These are such cute mother daughter tattoos, I can’t even stand it.
37. You Don’t Own Me!
I am curious as to why only one of them is the sea. I am also curious about people who quote Pippi Longstocking (which I only know because I Googled it. I am unfamiliar with the 1997 animated film). They’re otherwise a pretty and unique pair of tattoos, though.
38. Matching Mandala Mother Daughter Tattoos
My favorite thing about this pair of tattoos is that they meet on the outside of the feet instead of the inside. That was a bit unexpected. A pretty mandala for mom and daughter (and pedicured toes!)
Does anyone else think immediately of Cher in “Clueless” when they see this tattoo? Maybe it’s just me, and maybe that’s why I like this set of tattoos, but, like, “What-ever!” This is a super cute tattoo idea for moms and daughters who love to sew. Very clever and very unique.
40. Simply Stated
We’re ending this list with the simplest, most elegant pair of mother/daughter tattoos. Mom‘s says “Elena” and Daughter’s says “Mama,” in what I can only imagine is each others handwriting. I’m also going to assume that the line goes all the way around their wrists like bracelets, and that’s awesome. These are so pretty and feminine and a pure statement of affection. Wonder if I can get my mom to agree to something like this? There are more mother daughter tattoos below!
