Iggy Azalea, Before and After

As soon as Iggy Azalea hit the red carpet for the 2015 Billboard Music Awards, Twitter started freaking out about her “new face.”

Some folks thought the 24-year-old had made herself unrecognizable. Some compared her to a wax figure. And some even drew resemblances between Iggy and head-to-toe cosmetic surgery enthusiast Heidi Montag (gasp!).

We already know that Iggy 'fessed up to breast implants in this interview with Vogue. Asked what she would change about her body, she replied, “I did change something: Four months ago, I got bigger boobs! I'd thought about it my entire life.”

Except that's not the body part people were wondering about. First, it was her rumoured butt implants. And now, her suspiciously different-looking face. Are your surgical Spidey senses tingling? Let's take a look…

Iggy in 2011

Iggy used to look like this? I'm stunned! With her high, tight blonde ponytail, porcelain skin and vampy lips, she had a young Gwen Stefani vibe—so much fresher than the Iggy we know today, only a few years later. Sure, the nose-contouring and blush application are bad, but she still looks super-pretty. And not in a generic way, either. She still has that music star je ne sais quoi. What's also interesting is that her signature moles are a more natural pale brown colour. Now I'm positive she darkens them with a black pencil (which I don't love).

The next shot is from 2012, with a bit heavier styling. I think it's just the lighting giving her skin and hair an unflattering yellowish cast. A few little tweaks—like softening the lips and brows, and removing those over-the-top false lashes—would make a world of difference. But I get that in the music biz, you push it to extremes.

Still quite natural in 2013 She really does suit this hairstyle. Skin is fresh, brows are clean, just an exaggerated cat eye and some pinky lipstick. Very good!

Iggy in 2014

It's a spray tan giving her complexion that slightly orangey tone, right? I often find they look “off” on blonde people. But did you notice what also looks different? I think it's her lips. They seem plumper, especially the top one. And just like that, a face can take on a plastic quality.

They new lips also apparent in this shot—although I think she looks way prettier here. Her complexion and makeup are more golden and there's something about the coral dress with the matching coral lips that looks really fab. But holy trout pout! It must've been hard to rap with so much hyaluronic acid in there.

Thankfully, lip injections only last a few months, and they had calmed down by this point. Or maybe it's also the visible lip liner on the upper lip giving an optical illusion of less volume. Either way, her face looks more au naturel here despite all the (rather unfortunate) makeup. The eyes could've worked without the lips, or vice-versa.

Iggy was all glamorous neutrals for this event at the end of 2014. Hair and makeup are pretty on point, although her lips still look a touch inflated to me, and possibly cheeks? Plus that darn lip liner is rearing its head again. But still—pretty girl!

Iggy in 2015

This one is not her best. Too much spray tan/bronzer/contour, and I'd rather see natural-coloured moles… and natural-shaped lips. Plus, is it just me or do her cheeks look artificially volumized? Something feels really synthetic here, and I can't put my finger on it.

The surprise of curly hair made everything better at this event. I love the hair. All that volume is really flattering with her long face shape. Can't tell about the cheeks, but her lips still look like they had a date with a needle. Makeup is quite nice, though.

This is the event that shocked everyone. When you see all of the changes at once—lips, cheeks, boobs, nose… chin?—it's a lot to take in! First of all, her pout is plumper than ever. Nobody is talking about her cheeks but now I really think she got them injected. Putting too much volume there often gives women a slightly hardened, masculine look that I'm detecting here. It's too much!

You can really see the differences in the side profile. Her chin definitely looks pointier, suggesting a chin implant. (What in the world would she need a chin implant for?!?) And her nose is thinner and more button-like at the tip.

Update: Iggy in 2016

Well, this is a little less plastic—but I still see exaggerated lip and cheek injections.

Conclusion

So what do the pros say?

“It‣s obvious that she underwent rhinoplasty recently, since the nose looks different. It‣s shorter, straighter and the tip is rotated upward and narrower,” plastic surgeon Yoel Shahar told Hollywood Life. “Her chin definitely looks more projected as well,” adds plastic surgeon David Cangello. “It actually appears to be a bit crooked, which can happen as the result of misplacement of a chin implant.”

But wait—there's even more! “Iggy seems to have had her eyes done, a forehead/brow lift, Botox injections around the eyebrows, a nose job, wrinkle filler injections around the mouth, lip enhancement injections, and a chin implant,” says plastic surgeon Lyle Back. “[She] is still quite pretty, but now she looks like someone else—I see Christina Applegate crossed with Kaley Cuoco crossed with Keanu Reeves. She is barely recognizable as Iggy. That‣s not a fancy (nor desirable) result to me.”

It all adds up to a face that doesn't look quite real. Iggy was already quite unique-looking, but now she has a melted, waxy quality that wasn't there before. Which is why I'm of the mind that changing so many things about yourself is almost always a bad idea.

She's happy, though, and I suppose that's all that matters? A source told Us Weekly, “She loves the results! She wasn‣t happy with her nose for a long time, so after the boobs she wanted to get that taken care of and then got the chin done at the same time.”
