Editor’s Pick: L’Oréal’s Collection of 6 Perfect Pink Lipsticks

If you've been sitting out the current '90s lipstick revival, I don't blame you.

Kylie Jenner might pull them off, but those muddy browns, bricks and greys aren't always the most flattering thing a lady can put on her lips. (And that's even without the super-matte textures and over-drawn shapes also in fashion right now.)

But you know what always looks good? Pink. Hence, I got real excited when L'Oréal's new La Vie en Rose collection arrived. It's a breath of fresh air and EXACTLY what I feel like wearing as we head into summer 2016.

L'Oréal Paris La Vie en Rose Collection

Each pink-based lip colour in this range was inspired by one of the brand's celebrity faces; in Canada, there are six shades, but I think more are available in the US and UK.

I've always been a fan of the Collection Exclusives, going back to these great reds, but in my opinion, the pinks are the best yet.

The finish is sheer matte, so they're not too glossy nor too heavy—just soft. And the shades are beyond good. Not just the usual hot and baby pinks, but some very interesting in-between colours that you probably don't have in your arsenal.

I just love it when I stumble upon products that are this good, at a drugstore price. You're probably going to want at least a couple shades here—if not all of them!

This is a permanent collection, not limited-edition, so they'll be around for a while yet…

Julianne's Pink

Julianne's Pink, inspired by Julianne Moore, is described as a nude pink. It's more pinky than nude/beige—a real girly baby pink! But it's not so pale that it's unflattering, or chalky-looking. As with most light shades, it might cling a bit to any flaky patches, but that's easily corrected by smoothing with a fingertip.

Eva's Pink

Eva's Pink, inspired by Eva Longoria, is described as a peach pink. I don't know about that, but I LOVE this colour, whatever it is—one of my favourites in the collection for sure! On me, it has some soft berry undertones, but muted; it reminds me of those in-between medium lipstick shades that brands like Revlon had in the '90s and '00s. Very “your lips, only better,” especially with the modern semi-matte texture.

Jennifer's Pink

Jennifer's Pink, inspired by Jennifer Lopez, is described as a magenta pink. Gosh, it's gorgeous! It looks much darker in the tube than on the lips, where becomes this rich combination of hot pink and berry tones. I love this for a bold mouth, instead of the usual red or hot pink.

Doutzen's Pink

Doutzen's Pink, inspired by Doutzen Kroes, is described as a fuchsia pink. More like an electric hot pink—this colour is the brightest in the range and the most cool-toned. It's nice, but I'm guessing you probably have something like this already from when hot pink was the big trend, circa 2011. On me, it's probably the least flattering because I need a hint of warmth in my pinks.

Liya's Pink

Liya's Pink, inspired by Liya Kebede, is described as a Grenadian pink. I'm not sure what that means, exactly, but it goes on like a brighter, lighter and slightly more reddish version of Jennifer's Pink. I frickin' love it—another favourite here. Again, it's a nice change of pace from red, but has similar intensity.

Blake's Pink

Blake's Pink, inspired by Blake Lively, is described as an orangey pink. Well, that had me at hello—and it did not disappoint! Contrary to how it looks in the tube (coral), the pink tones come out more on the lips to create this lovely unique shade that would work on most complexions. I've mentioned before how yellow-toned pinks are hard to come by, so this is a rare find!

Conclusion

What did I tell you—aren't these shades amazing? While I think any skin tone could wear any of the colours, there's sure to be at least one or two in particular that steal your heart. For me, those are Eva's Pink, Liya's Pink and Blake's Pink. I am in serious love here!
