How to Do Zoë Kravitz’s Skincare Routine

Maybe you've noticed: Zoë Kravitz is having a major moment lately. But here on this blog, we've been admiring her style—and her flawless skin!—for a few years now.

The 28-year-old actress, singer and sometime model always seems to nail that effortless beauty thing on the red carpet, balancing artistic makeup with a fresh, naturally glowing complexion.

The latter is partially genetic, I'm sure, since Mom and Dad are Lisa Bonet and Lenny Kravitz! But I think she also owes her gorgeous skin to a careful routine, plant-based ingredients, and a regular, long-term relationship with her family facialist, Dayle Breault.

“For the most part, everything I use is either by Dayle or it's on the natural side,” Zoë told The New York Times. “I don't like to put too much on if I don't know what it is. The product is going in your pores every day.”

I couldn't agree more! Here's what's involved in Zoë's routine:

Zoë's Skincare Routine

1. Cleansers:

Dayle Breault Goddess of Skin Profound Cleanser: “My facialist, Dayle Breault, whom I've been going to since I was 15—my mom and dad go to her, too, which is how I found out about her—makes her own line. She has an amazing face wash that I use. I am completely addicted.”

Simply Divine Botanicals You Can't Zit Here! Blemish Banishing Foamy Wash: “I like this company called Simply Divine Botanicals. Their products are organic. They make really great body butters, and they have a face wash I like, too.”

Dayle Breault Goddess of Skin Radiant Skin Pads: “When I'm travelling, [Dayle] has these really great cleansing pads, which are like a toner and cleanser in one. [They] are perfect for on-the-go glow.”

2. Exfoliator:

Dayle Breault Goddess of Skin Bonafide Scrub: “I use all of [Dayle's] exfoliants and serums.”

3. Spot Treatment:

Arcona Tabula Rasa Spot Repair: “If I'm eating too much sugar or not sleeping enough, I see it in my skin. This is great for pimples because it's a bit astringent.”

4. Eye Creams:

Dr. Hauschka Daily Hydrating Eye Cream: “Under the eyes, I use a cream by Dr. Hauschka.”

Kiehl's Creamy Eye Treatment with Avocado: “Kiehl's has an avocado eye cream that's good, too.”

Arcona Eye Dew: “I really like Arcona products. They give great facials, too.”

5. Face Mist:

Dayle Breault Goddess of Skin Synergy Mist: “In the wintertime, I might use Dayle's mist afterward, because it keeps your skin moisturized.”

6. Serum:

Dayle Breault Goddess of Skin Truthful Serum: “I like [Dayle's] serum. I'll add that when it gets so dry here. [It] keeps my face dewy, bright, and nourished.”

7. Moisturizers:

Arcona Magic White Ice (for daytime)

Arcona Gentle Solution (for evening): “My morning and nighttime routines are pretty much the same.”

8. Sunscreens:

Dayle Breault Goddess of Skin Heartfelt Emulsion Day 40: “Dayle makes an SPF that's really great.”

Laura Mercier Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer SPF 20: “Laura Mercier has these shimmery tinted moisturizers with SPF. In the summertime, you can put a layer on, and it's glowy and pretty. I believe that we are all the most beautiful in our natural state, but sometimes we need a little something extra.”

9. Lip Balm:

Dr. Hauschka Lip Balm: “My lip balm is by Dr. Hauschka.”

Zoë's Skincare Treatments

Facials:

Dayle Breault: “Where I really spoil myself is my facials with Dayle. She's between L.A. and New York, and I try to go as often as I can. Her facials have also become my go-to gifts for girlfriends. My theory is, when your skin is good, you can be confident and you don't have to wear makeup. I cannot begin to express my love for Dayle. She has helped heal my skin in ways that I never thought possible.”

Light Treatments:

LightStim for Acne LED Light Therapy Device: “I have this device at home actually. It's a light that's supposed to kill bacteria, it's called LightStim! My boyfriend makes so much fun of me when I hold it up to my face.”

Steam Showers:

“I have a steam shower in my apartment, which is awesome. I steam at least once a day, and sometimes again right before bed if I've been out drinking and dancing—it's a nice way to prevent a hangover.”

Spa Treatments:

Aire Ancient Baths: “Instead of going out at night, sometimes I'll go to this spa, Aire Ancient Baths, in TriBeCa. It's open until 11, and I go with Alex [Wang] a lot. We'll go late at night and do salt baths and cold baths. It's all wood and brick inside, and really beautiful.”

Steam Rooms:

“I love steam rooms, because it helps get all the toxins out and rejuvenates your body.”

Zoë's Diet, Exercise and Lifestyle

Diet:

“I'm a big fan of juice and health and all that stuff. That's where beauty starts. I make sure that I'm eating well. I was raised vegan. My mom would always make quinoa with squash and kale, hippie stuff like that. Now I eat meat, but I try to be conscious about where it's coming from. But I stick to mostly vegan health food just because it's how I grew up.”

“I really believe it's important to know that beauty and health start from the inside. I know it's expensive and difficult to eat well, but you can try growing a community garden and grow things from the earth yourself. It's really important to know exactly what you're putting in your body. Things that are alive are vibrant.”

Exercise:

Ballet Beautiful: “I go through phases. Right now, I really like the Ballet Beautiful at-home videos. I haven't been to an actual class of theirs in ages, but I'll travel with the videos, and you can do it anywhere.”

“I do try to fit in cardio. In the summertime, I'll run in the park or something, and in the winter, it's the gym. I also walk everywhere. Thank God for New York because I probably spend 80 percent of my time walking, from going up and down stairs to catching the subway.”

“I try to work out when I first get up. Otherwise I'll go late at night, like 10pm. I think it helps me sleep, and it's very important to sweat and move your blood. My gym in Brooklyn is really small, and I'll just go on the elliptical for 30 minutes, long enough to work up a sweat, and then I'm good. And I do stretches and sit-ups at home, like leg exercises and stuff. I've worked with a lot of trainers over the years for shows and films, so I know enough about fitness to do things on my own at this point.”

Cleanses:

Dr. Schulze 30-Day Detox: “Me, my mom, and her husband, we try and do a cleanse once a year. We do the Dr. Schulze one; it's a 30-day cleanse and it's really intense, but you feel like a million bucks after. You really clean out everything in your body and start again—and then you can destroy your body again.”

Wellness:

“Wellness is the most important thing. Health is literally all we have, and we take it for granted. I really think beauty starts from within. If you‣re not sleeping and you're not drinking water and you're not eating right and you're not exercising—if you're not taking care of yourself, no amount of makeup or no fabulous outfit is going to make you look good.”
