From Vampy Lips to Chunky Lashes: 15 of the Best Celebrity Beauty Looks Lately

There's an amazing diversity of hair and makeup looks—as well as skin tones!—in this week's batch of beauty inspiration. Paula Patton is at the top of my list, and I can't get over how incredible she looks in vampy berry lipstick…

Paula Patton

What I love: Pretty much everything! I can't stop staring at Paula's gorgeous glowing skin, defined lashes and strong, brushed-up brows—with the deep oxblood mouth topping it all off. Pulling everything back into a ponytail highlights her perfectly oval face. She looks like a model here; anyone else getting Joan Smalls vibes? What I'd change: I think I see white liner in her lower waterlines, and as you know, I'm never a fan of that. Also, the centre of her face has a lighter colour of foundation to highlight, but it reads a fraction too light and too pink. But don't get me wrong—I'm blown away overall!

Keri Russell

What I love: Keri is so underrated. I love that she keeps it real on the red carpet! Case in point: this glossy berry mouth with chunky lashes (no falsies), rosy cheeks and a smooth blowout. Notice how her brows are filled in, but the brushed-up hairs soften any harsh lines. What I'd change: Nothing.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead

What I love: I appreciate Mary's beauty looks more when I see them up-close, because she always does these different little details. This time, it's liner in her waterlines with a halo of softer, smudgier colour all the way around. She added glossy soft pink lips and matching blush. Her lob has some bend in it, but looks touchable, not crispy. Really pretty! What I'd change: Nothing.

Zoë Kravitz

What I love:Of course Zoë fully pulls off an architectural, sky-high top knot that spans six inches. Could she get any cooler?! We've seen her in mostly bare-faced looks lately, so this creamy, almost-matte red lipstick is a refreshing change. Love her brows, and her eye shape is enhanced by the darker shadow in the crease and highlighted lids. Hooray for normal lashes! What I'd change: Nothing.

Emma Roberts

What I love: It's a blue cat eye! And not a subtle one—these wings of Emma's are very dramatic. But she wore them the right way (well, mostly): with beautiful fresh skin, subtle peach blush, sheer glossy balm and groomed brows. I like the contrast between the decorative eye makeup and her casual, textured hair. What I'd change: The false lashes. I'm not against using them in this case, but at the outer edges, these look too long, fake and Kardashian-esque. (They don't need to touch her brows, right?)

Jennifer Garner

What I love: Jennifer is never going to be the most polished or fashion-forward person on the red carpet, but she has this “girl next door” appeal that is so attractive. I really like this makeup, especially the sheer peach lip gloss and her fresh skin texture. The highlights in her brown hair were also done really well (not too light). What I'd change: The half-up hairstyle is acceptable, but not blowing me away; I'd love to see it a few inches shorter and in a side part. Her brows are a bit angular.

Keke Palmer

What I love: Keke's lipstick choices lately are so exciting to me. We just saw her in a red shimmer at the Kids' Choice Awards. Now, she's wearing an unusual frosty medium pink with the shimmer amped up even more. (I keep waiting for this lip texture to happen. Maybe this is the year!) Once again, I find her choppy bangs very adorable. What I'd change: There's still the issue of the lighter foundation/highlight colour in her mid-face, which looks even more ashy/grey here.

Emmy Rossum

What I love: Emmy looks perfectly polished and put-together in this sleek, side-parted updo and refined daytime makeup. For me, it's her flawless skin that stands out most, accented by subtle peach blush and highlighter on her cheeks. She did do her usual smoky eyes, but wisely kept the lashes low-key. Love the nude gloss, too. What I'd change: Nothing.

Kerry Washington

What I love: Speaking of great skin, here's Kerry's. It reflects the light beautifully, and is just a touch dewy—but not greasy—with not a flaw in sight. The nude lips are also pretty, and with her hair up in a braided bun, she looks very elegant and ballerina-like. What I'd change: These ones aren't too bad, but I'm still hopeful that one day Kerry will lose the false lashes.

Melissa Benoist

What I love: If you couldn't tell already, I'm becoming more and more drawn to great skin in these red carpet round-ups! Melissa's is another example. Like Kerry's, her complexion looks luminous in all the right places. I also like her brows and the worn-off, stained lips. What I'd change: I'm not so sure about these gelled roots—but that might be because the fake lashes send a completely different message. Dry hair and natural lashes would be better.

Bar Refaeli

What I love: Stars! They're just like us! I don't know about you, but I actually appreciate seeing Bar's real skin here. If there is foundation, she is wearing very little of it. Same thing for the lips, cheeks, lids and brows—just about the only noticeable makeup is the mascara and liner, and even they are subtle. What I'd change: Nothing—I'd still rather see slightly imperfect skin than heavy makeup. But for the rest of us (non-models), I would consider a more defined hairstyle, preferably worn down, to give polish. Otherwise, a no-makeup look with casual hair can seem a bit like you just came from cleaning the bathroom and didn't try at all…

Peyton List

What I love: These big curls are fun, aren't they? I just realized how much I miss them! We've seriously had 10 years of those droopy/beachy mermaid waves coming out of Hollywood, but I find Peyton's so much more appealing—they're like Elle Woods waves! I also like her lipstick colour with the yellow dress. What I'd change: While I'm happy she didn't go cray on the lashes, I don't think the copper eyeshadow adds anything here, and the black liner at the base is kinda harsh. I like blending.

Abigail Breslin

What I love: Without fail, I'm mesmerized by Abigail's eye makeup. (Oh, and her skin! Always such out-of-this-world skin.) She did a lovely shade of purple just peeking above the crease, with soft smudgy brown defining the rest of her eye shape. I love that she paired it with peach blush and lip gloss. Cool tones wouldn't look as modern. What I'd change: We need to talk about those roots! I think a warm mid-brown would work great on her, and the contrast with her natural colour wouldn't be so off-putting.

Naomi Watts

What I love: You've got to hand it to Naomi, she puts herself together impeccably. Most of all, I love her haircut/style, which is very youthful but not overly trendy. Keeping some dewiness to her skin is also important, and her makeup is just perfect: strong darkened brows, mascara'd upper lashes and a raspberry lipstick. What I'd change: Nothing.

Rosario Dawson

What I love: So great to see Rosario, it's been a while! Her smile is my favourite feature, and she kept things simple in a clear pinky gloss. I like her tightlined eyes, and her foundation seems like a good match. What I'd change: The loose, textured hair isn't really working. I'd like more of a defined hairstyle—more smoothing and shape—to take this to the next level. Wouldn't a stick-straight lob be amazing on her? Her brow tails are also looking a bit skinny, and could be built up a tad.
